About

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of over 2,500 local and regional governments dedicated to advancing sustainable urban development. Operating in more than 125 countries, ICLEI shapes sustainability policies and fosters local action focused on low-emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient, and circular development. Through peer exchange, partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives, members and experts collaborate to drive systemic change for urban sustainability.

As an association, ICLEI connects and fosters leadership, as a movement they accelerate action, and as an agency they provide a gateway to solutions.

Vision and Mission

ICLEI’s vision and mission is to provide a wide-range of services for local, provincial, and federal governments to support the development of sustainable communities. This includes advancing adaptation and resilience planning, energy amd emissions planning, capacity-building, and developing tools and resources to reach such sustainability goals. ICLEI also envisions providing communities with training opportunities, fosteriung a connected peer network, providing consulting to local governments, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and engaging in meaningful climate communications.
