The regional hub for climate services in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba
ClimateWest is a non-profit regional hub serving Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, providing climate services to help people, communities, businesses, and governments address climate risks and opportunities. Its mandate is to deliver credible, region-specific climate data, and tools to support effective climate change adaptation.
The Prairie provinces have long adapted to seasonal weather variability, a defining trait of the region. However, as one of Canada’s fastest-warming areas, the Prairies face increased challenges from more severe and frequent extreme weather events. The changing climate has brought new opportunities, but proactive planning is needed to leverage this. ClimateWest ultimately focuses on building resilience to help the Prairies thrive amid climate change.

Vision and Mission
ClimateWest’s mission is to improve access to leading-edge climate research, tools, training, and building capacity that is trustworthy by being:
- Approachable through making climate knowledge accessible, understandable and actionable for real people while also welcoming questions and collaborative problem-solving.
- Inclusive by recognizing that the Prairies are home to many realities, and to reflect these different perspectives by listening.
- Relevant by being committed to supporting locally driven approaches to climate adaptation and providing deep care and attention to local adaptation challenges.
- Reliable by ensuring the network is anchored in research excellence to then be a central hub for credible climate information and expertise.
- Responsive in understanding the climate adaptation barriers people and communities across the Prairies face, and taking pride in adapting services in response to challenges, ideas and feedback.
ClimateWest is part of a growing network that works closely with the Canadian Centre for Climate Services (CCCS) within Environment and Climate Change Canada. The vision is to create more regional hubs in Canada to promote access to a continuum of national climate data portals as training and support when making climate-informed decisions.
