This project aims to support practitioners in natural resource sectors move from adaptation planning to implementation.
Under this Project, the Climate Risk Institute (CRI) is conducting a thorough review of adaptation initiatives to uncover prevalent challenges experienced among decision-makers and others working in Canada’s mining, forestry, and energy sectors throughout the adaptation planning and implementation process. CRI is also identifying examples of successful implementation, highlighting key drivers and enablers used to overcome barriers and achieve implementation. This work will culminate in the creation of sector-specific knowledge products with validated case-study examples that can be used to guide practitioners.
This Project will benefit Canada by improving knowledge of the key drivers, enablers, and obstacles faced by Canadian decision-makers and practitioners when transitioning from adaptation planning to implementation. The Project will also contribute to long-term climate change resilience in Canada’s natural resource sectors by supporting the transition from adaptation planning to implementation.

Problem Statement
What are the key drivers, enablers and barriers experienced in forestry, mining and energy sectors when it comes to the implementation of adaptation solutions?
Objectives
Launch an online collaborative space that brings together practitioners to share their experiences with implementation, exchange ideas, network, and access resources related to supporting implementation.
Develop a framework to characterize drivers, enablers, and barriers (DEB's).
Review adaptation initiatives to uncover prevalent challenges experienced among decision-makers and others working in Canada’s mining, forestry, and energy sectors throughout the adaptation planning and implementation process.
Hold engagement sessions to validate sectoral DEB's.
Leadership
Suzanne Seiling serves as the Project Manager. With a rich background in climate change initiatives, Suzanne drives the project towards its goals. Her role encompasses the coordination and oversight of all project facets, from planning and outreach to budget management and work prioritization.
Supporting Suzanne are Jazmin Najera and Dilruba Sharmin, who collectively bolster the project with their logistic, research, communication, and organizational skills. Their work is crucial in streamlining operations, maintaining comprehensive documentation, and facilitating robust engagement strategies, allowing the project team to focus on specialized tasks crucial for advancing key activities and deliverables.
A Stewardship Committee comprised of sector representatives provide guidance and advises the project activities, ensuring a smooth translation of planning into actionable adaptation strategies. The team's collaborative approach, coupled with a focus on evidence-based solutions and sector-specific insights, positions the "Implementation Insights" project as a catalyst for building resilience within Canada's natural resource sectors against climate change impacts.
